I have taught violin privately in my home since 2001. During this time I have had students qualify for the UIL state-level competition (TSSEC) on twelve occasions, including two instances of winning Outstanding Soloist awards. A great many of my students have participated in region orchestras and the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) and on numerous occasions have earned principal and other titled positions. I have had a student qualify for the TMEA All-State Philharmonic Orchestra; she has since earned a master's degree in violin performance from a world-renowned conservatory and embarked on a career as a professional performer and violin teacher. Four of my former students have majored in violin studies in college.
I teach all levels, beginner through professional, and all ages. For beginning and intermediate students, I ordinarily use the Suzuki books through Volume 4, then transition into individually-tailored repertoire. My teaching style reflects my own training; although I use Suzuki publications in teaching some students, I am not a strict adherent of the Suzuki method. I incorporate instruction in music theory and music history into my teaching as appropriate.
I have served on numerous occasions as an adjudicator for string auditions and contests. A partial listing follows.
